New Travel Dreams

Where next should our travels take us?  We have already visited seventy-plus countries and lived overseas for eight years.  With a new winter home in Florida awaiting us, perhaps it is time to slow down and explore Florida.  But Florida borders on the Caribbean making exploration of islands there more convenient.  Thus, we have scheduled a cruise including stops at islands new to us.

A few years ago, we took a Danube River cruise to Budapest.  It made me start thinking about destinations located further downstream.  Why travel by boat when traveling through a vast land with castles, forests, and mountains?  Romania is similar in size to the state of Oregon.  Instead, we have a road vacation planned for a route from Sofia, Bulgaria, to Cluj-Napoca, Romania, through the Transylvania region then perhaps flying onto Switzerland.

When we did a road trip from Zagreb to Dubrovnik in 2015, Croatia wasn't as popular a destination as it is now.  A visit to Bulgaria and Romania may be a similar situation.  Bulgaria has recently started using the Euro as their currency.  I understand that English is increasingly being taught and spoken in Romania.  Tourism there is increasing.  The conflict in Ukraine has not yet spilled over the common border into Romania.  [Although a seaborne drone was recently destroyed by Romanian military off their coast.]

Slow down does not mean a complete 'stop' to our travels.
